Piaggio Vespa LX 125

If you are as old as me, then you would still feel nostalgic about those Bajaj and LML Vespa scooters of the 80s that in a way defined that era. Piaggio, the parent company that owns the Vespa brand is back in India focusing on the scooter segment – this time, of the premium kind. The Piaggio Vespa LX 125 was launched in April 2012 and is equipped with a powerful 125cc single cylinder 4-stroke engine that delivers close to 10.06 PS power and 10.6 Nm torque. If you look at it, this is even more powerful than the Suzuki Swish and Suzuki Access scooters we discussed yesterday that too are in the 125 cc segment. You can buy a Vespa LX 125 at a price of Rs. 68,257 ex-showroom Delhi.

Piaggio Vespa LX 125 Mileage

Official Claim on Fuel Economy

Piaggio is positioning the Vespa LX 125 as a premium scooter at a premium price. Given this, it is a given that the focus is more on the looks and features rather than on the mileage. But according to the company officials, the scooter can deliver as much as 60 kilometers on the liter. That’s better than Access 125 and comparable with Swish.

Customer Reviews on Mileage

Vicky.in has not reported a test drive of the scooter, but according to one early customer who purchased the Vespa, you can expect 43 kmpl on the city roads and 47 kmpl on highways. BharathAutos claims something similar. They note the average expected mileage on city roads to be something around 40-42 kmpl. No numbers for the highways has been given.

Prodease in their review call the Vespa LX a ‘good looking’ scooter with ‘old world retro design’. While that definitely suits the premium market they are targeting, the mileage they quote is not impressive. The economy is around 41 kmpl on cities and 42 kmpl on highways. While Motorbeam reports a mileage that is only slightly higher – at 45 kmpl – they are still mighty impressed with the scooter primarily because this mileage is pretty good for the performance that this bike delivers.

MaxAbout too gives a resounding thumbs up to the bike. According to their review, the Vespa LX 125 can deliver 45 kmpl on city roads that can go as high a the company claimed 60 kmpl on highway conditions.

But if you have to get a heads up on what the real world customers are feeling, you should check out MouthShut.com. There are 10 reviews on the site and the overall mileage rating for the Vespa LX 125 is 3/5. Quite evidently people are not extremely happy with the efficiency of the scooter. Looking into the reviews, the common refrain is that this bike is all looks and no substance. Or as one user puts it, it’s an overpriced for an under-spec’d scooter. While we will leave that debate to the experts, all that can be noted from these reviews is that the real world city mileage of the Vespa seems to hover only around 28-35 kmpl. That’s just about half of what the company claims.

So that is where things stand. Of course, a lot of customers who have rode the scooter seem happy with mileage;  especially seeing it from the light of the performance and looks on offer. However, people for whom commuting is the primary need, the scooter might disappoint. The reviews pointing to the 28-35 kmpl mileage under city conditions should not be ignored. So our recommendation is to go for the bike if and only if mileage is not your primary concern. Here is a snapshot of what various people have told us about the scooter’s fuel consumption:

Suzuki Access 125

We just discussed the Suzuki Swish 125 earlier in the day. This scooter was basically built off the engine of the Suzuki Access 125. Like the Swish, Access too is a 125cc scooter just with a design that was conceptualized earlier than the Swish.

Suzuki Access Mileage

Suzuki Access carries a 124cc 4 stroke single cylinder engine that delivers a power of 8.5 BHP and 9.8 Nm torque. If you look at this, this is all basically the same as Suzuki Swish. There is one major difference though. The Suzuki Access kerb weighs 115 kgs whereas Swish weighs only 110 kg. This has a huge impact on the mileage since the Access is basically pulling more weight for the power than Swish which means it could be offering a lower mileage than Swish.

Official Mileage Claim

Since the Swish and Access are different only in the exteriors, the mileage is inversely proportional to the weight of these scooters . As we had noted earlier, the Swish offers a mileage of 60 kmpl. Considering that the Access is 5kgs heavier than the Swish, the economy provided is expected to be much lower, and it evidently is. According to documents from the company, the Suzuki Access can offer 50.22 kmpl under standard test conditions. Do note that the real world mileages can go much lower than this.

Customer Reviews on Fuel Consumption

Let’s start with the review from BikeAdvice. The website rates the average mileage on the Access to be around 37.5 kmpl. On city roads, this apparently works out to be around 33 kmpl while on highways it’s 43 kmpl. BharathAutos has a better review. According to their report, you can draw as much as 44.7 kmpl on the Access. It’s not been mentioned if this is on city roads or highways although I presume this is on the highways.

IndianDrives calls the Suzuki Access the “most powerful” sco0ter in its category. At the same time, the website calls the design “ugly styled” and “nothing to impress”. The mileage doesn’t seem to impress either. In their test drive, the website was able to see 35 kmpl on city roads. That’s pretty low for a scooter.

A number of Access customers have reviewed their bike on BikeDekho.com. While some people have complained about after-sales service, a lot other customers have been happy with the performance of the bike. One complaint I could see from more than one customer was on the fuel economy. The reported mileage from these customers was anywhere between 28-32 kmpl on city roads and 35 kmpl on highways. If this is true, then this is ridiculously low and you should be staying away from the bike.

To decide, we need to look on to MouthShut. There are 172 reviews for the Access on this user review website and the customers have in all rated the scooter a 3/5 on mileage. This is definitely on the low side considering we have more powerful bikes in the 150cc/180cc range that get a 4/5 rating. Reading through the reviews, one can see why. There are several reviews reporting a mileage of around 20-25 kmpl. However, I should point out that there are also customers who have reported mileages around 40 kmpl on city roads. So I guess it’s a kind of a mixed bag.

As expected, the  mileage reported on Olx is on the higher side. The average customer putting up his/her scooter on sale here has reported a fuel economy of around 30-45 kmpl.

A consolidated report of mileages reported by various sources is posted below. One thing is clear. This scooter definitely has mileage issues, even though it is not apparent due to infrequent reporting. I would personally recommend the Swish over Access considering it is more stylish and can deliver a better economy. In any case, should you still be interested in the Access, you can get one at a price of Rs. 51,205 on-road Delhi – just a thousand bucks or so cheaper than Swish.

Suzuki Swish 125

In terms of bikes, there are 4 commonly available segments – the entry level 100cc, the 125cc, the 150cc and the 180cc. Suzuki doesn’t seem to have one yet at the 180cc. They however have a couple of scooters that should give the other popular models in the space a run for their money.

Suzuki Swish Mileage

The Suzuki Swish 125, as you guessed it right, is a 124cc single cylinder 4 stroke engine scooter that delivers a power of 8.58 BHP at 9.8 Nm torque. While we may be comparing apples to oranges, I thought it is apt to compare this with the Suzuki Slingshot Plus which is a bike with a similar engine – the Slingshot Plus too delivers 8.5 BHP but at a slightly higher 10 Nm torque. You can buy a Swish for yourself at Rs. 52, 312 on-road at Delhi.

Suzuki Swish 125 Company Claim

Equipped with a 125cc engine, the Suzuki Swish is among the most powerful among scooters in India which are commonly in the 100cc range. What this means is that the power and pickup you can see on the Swish is better than most other models available today. Unfortunately though, this power and pickup can affect mileages and so you may be seeing a mileage lower than what your friends are drawing from the other scooters. In any case, the official claim on mileage is around 60 kmpl which is still not all too bad.

Customer Reviews

Let’s start with MaxAbout. The website heaps praise on the Swish 125 for its impressive styling and power. According to their review, you can expect a fuel consumption of 40 kmpl on city roads with the Swish which can go up to 50 kmpl on highway roads. The reviews on the IndiaGarage forums are not very different either and the users expect to draw 45-50 kilometers on every liter of petrol on the Swish.

NewBikesinIndia gives a thumbs down though. Comparing the Swish to Duro DZ, the website claims that the Swish is not as good and gives you more than 35 kmpl in the city and on highways this can go up to 42 kmpl. OverDrive on the other other paints a totally opposite picture. In a similar review of Suzuki Swish and Duro DZ, they claim the Swish to be performing better extracting as much as 56.3 kmpl on city roads and 58.8 kmpl on highways. Let me tell you that I’m totally skeptical about these numbers.

The skepticism rises when you see the review from ZigWheels – in a comparison of the various scooters currently in the market, the website notes that the Swish is the least performing scooter in terms of mileage – obviously because of the better performance with respect to power. They report a mileage of just 38 kmpl on the Suzuki Swish.

One problem with reviewing mileages is it is difficult to tell when websites are reporting actually tested numbers and when they are simply regurgitating company claimed numbers. The best place to ensure we are seeing regular customer reported numbers is on MouthShut. For Suzuki Swish 125, there are 7 reviews on the site and these customers have together rated the scooter 3/5 for mileage. The reported numbers for city road conditions hover between 35-42 kmpl while that on highways range between 45-60 kmpl.

As always, the reviews on Olx vary from reasonable reports to extremes. Customers looking to sell their scooter on the site claim mileages of between 40-55 kmpl. I would personally go with the lower base.

So as you see, the reviews are fairly telling. You can claim to have the fastest scooter among your friends if you are buying the Suzuki Swish 125. But with great power comes a drop in mileage and so you may not be seeing the same mileage as your friends report. It’s a fair compromise to make and it is you who can decide what you should go for depending on what you need.

Honda Activa

This has been a long time coming. Honda Activa is without doubt the most popular among the scooters out there in the market. The Activa was first launched way back in 2000 and has since then been upgraded with better features and more importantly better mileage – up to 15% more. Honda Activa is built with a 109cc 4 stroke single cylinder engine and can offer a max power of 8 BHP and torque of 9 Nm. The scooter is now available in the markets at a not-so-cheap price of Rs. 46,387 ex-showroom, Delhi.

Honda Activa Mileage

Honda Activa Mileage

Since the launch of the 2009 model, Honda claims the Activa can deliver 15% more mileage. Not just that, they claim that this model now offers the best fuel economy of 66.7 kmpl among scooters in India. That’s a tall claim given the fact that the officially claimed mileage of TVS Scooty Streak is higher at 68 kmpl. For comparison, the officially claimed mileages of other scooters we have reviewed hover between 45 kmpl for the Kinetic Sym Flyte and 60 kmpl for the Hero Maestro.

Actual Customer Reviews For Fuel Economy

Let us start with the reviews from BikeSpace. In their review they note that the Activa can deliver a mileage of 54 kmpl with a pickup that is lower than other scooters out there. It is evidently a compromise on either the pickup or the mileage. MyIndiaGuide reports a slightly lesser mileage – of just 52.2 kilometers on the liter. Again, BharathAutos notes a mileage that is between the other two reports – 53.5 kmpl.

ZigWheels, the automobile section of the Time Group, in their review have noted that the lower engine cylinder displacement on the Activa as compared to rivals has helped the scooter better the others in mileage. Their review shows a mileage of 46.8 kmpl on the Activa.

IndiaMart have not exactly reviewed the Activa. But in their description field, they report a city mileage of Activa to be around 55 kmpl. MaxAbout on the other hand paints a totally different picture. Their review has pegged the city mileage of Activa to be just 40 kmpl while the fuel economy improves on the highways to 45 kmpl. This is totally not what a customer whose main priority is the mileage would want. MaxAbout is not the only one to have reported such a low mileage. Some reports on forums like IndiaGarage have in fact noted even lower mileages like 35 kmpl on Honda Activa.

So as always, when in doubt, we hit MouthShut for the user reviews. There are over 350 reviews on the site with the average user rating the Activa 3/5 for mileage. This is typically not a good rating since from my earlier reviews, I have noted a 3/5 rating to be usually given to power-bikes, like the Honda CBR 150R for instance. Reading into the reviews, one cannot see why though. Most users have reported a mileage of between 45-55 kmpl on their Activa. It’s probably because of the difference between what they expected (66.7 kmpl according to company officials) and what they see on the road. Nevertheless, the difference in mileage is a valid concern and something that Honda ought to address right away.

Checking the Olx postings for Honda Activa (models since 2009), one can see that posters here actually report an average mileage lower than that reported on MouthShut. Customers have reported a fuel economy of between 40-50 kmpl. It’s not everytime that we see mileages reported on Olx to be lower than that reported on MouthShut since the latter is a reviews site and the former is a classifieds site where posters regularly sugarcoat their products for sale.

In any case, there you have it. The Honda Activa is definitely a good scooter for both genders. But you have to be careful with the mileage since it is not reported to be very consistent among various reviewers. If you are someone who is going to be happy with a 45-50 kmpl fuel consumption, there is no reason why you should not be going for the Activa. TVS Scooty Streak

Ever since TVS started targeting women for their scooter range in the  mid-90s,  Scooty  has come to be refer to any of the various two wheelers targeting the female population in the country. The TVS Scooty Streak is one of the latest entrants to the Scooty range having launched as late as 2009. This variant comes with a Litech engine and features like stylish LED lamps and mobile charger that would impress a lot of women.

TVS Scooty Streak Mileage

The Scooty Streak is powered by a 4 stroke single cylinder engine with a capacity of 87.8cc which can deliver up to 5 BHP power and 5.8 Nm torque. If you have been visiting this blog for the bikes, you would realize that the power delivered here is pretty low compared to what you see on the bikes – but then this is not a power bike but an easy to ride scooter targeting young women. The TVS Scooty Streak is available at a price of Rs. 42,300 ex-showroom Delhi.

Official TVS Scooty Streak Mileage

Given that TVS is targeting the young college going women with this scooter, the expectations around mileage are going to be high. At least from the ARAI testing conditions, the Scooty Streak does not disappoint. According to company officials, the Streak clocks 68 kilometers per litre of petrol under these standard conditions.

TVS Scooty Streak Customer Reviews

City road conditions have known to vastly affect the real-world mileage of motor vehicles. PricesofIndia reports that the mileage they draw from their test of the Scooty Streak is just 45 kmpl. Thankfully, IndiaBike.com differs in their opinion. In their test drive, the Scooty Streak delivered 59.6 kmpl on city roads and a top notch 77 kmpl on the highways delivering an overall mileage of 63.9 kmpl. WheelMela has a report that would place the mileage somewhere between the other two reviews. They report a 51 kmpl mileage on city roads.

Looking at the reviews from the bigger websites though could be disappointing. IndiaMart reports a mileage of 40 kmpl on the Scooty Streak while MaxAbout concurs with reports stating 40 kmpl in city roads and 62 kmpl on highways.

Given the fact that the mileage reviews differ so much between 40 kmpl and 59.6 kmpl even on city roads, it makes sense to see what posters on review sites like MouthShut got to say. Unfortunately, the reviews haven’t been great. One customer reports that her Streak only delivers between 35-40 kmpl on village roads. Another customer though reports 40-50 kmpl on city roads while the third is more specific and reports a 42-44 kmpl mileage. Ultimately they all point to a mileage of less than 50 kmpl. Even a classifieds site like Olx.in where customers normally put up a better mileage for their vehicles has an average mileage report of only between 45-50 kmpl.

So looking for a final say? The TVS Scooty Streak is amazing for many reasons. But the mileage aint one of them. If fuel economy is extremely important to you, check out alternatives because this is not the best of the lot. Here’s a snapshot of fuel consumption as reported by various sources.

Hero Maestro

Traditionally motorcycle manufacturers have targeted the males with their bikes and the scooters are targeted primarily at the female audience. Even those of them who target the males with their scooters position them as a unisex model. Hero Maestro is one of the few scooters targeted primarily at the males. The scooter is equipped with a 4-stroke, single cylinder 109cc engine offering a maximum power of 6 kw and torque of 9.10 Nm. Specs wise, the Hero Maestro is very much like the Honda Aviator 109CC.

Hero Maestro Mileage

Hero Maestro Mileage

At 109cc, the Hero Maestro has the same engine cylinder volume as the Honda Dream Yuga. Given that the Yuga claims a mileage of 72 kmpl, you would imagine a relatively lighter scooter like Hero Maestro to offer a much higher fuel efficiency. But at first look, that doesn’t seem to be the case. According to the company officials, the Maestro offers a mileage of just around 60 kmpl. Is that what everyone riding the scooter is reporting? Let’s find out.

Hero Maestro Customer Reviews

According to one customer reviewing his newly purchased Hero Maestro on BikeDekho, the scooter is expected to offer a relatively low mileage till the third service post which the mileage should shoot to 55-60 kmpl. As a new customer though, he reports a mileage of 41.7 kmpl in city conditions. On Vicky.in, a customer of two months has again reported a mileage of between 40 – 41 kmpl.

These reported mileages are for city conditions. On highways, the mileage could be closer to the officially claimed consumption levels. That is exactly what MaxAbout is reporting. In their test drive, they report a mileage of 42 kmpl under city conditions and a much better 60 kmpl on the highways. That’s very similar to what the folks at IamaBiker note,at least in the city conditions. In their review, they write that the reported mileage on city roads is 43 kmpl although on the highways, the fuel consumption is not very high at 47 kmpl. AutoEmpyrean too report a mileage of between 40-45 kmpl in their test drive.

Often times, MouthShut is a great place to see what disgruntled customers (who are more likely to review a product that those happy with a product) have to say about the mileage on their vehicles. There are 23 reviews for the Hero Maestro and overall, these reviewers have given the scooter a 4/5 for fuel consumption. Most of these reviewers report a mileage of anywhere between 45 – 51 kmpl; except for one reviewer who reports 40 kmpl before servicing.

As with MouthShut, it is also always nice to see what people on classifieds like Olx or Quikr have to say considering people selling a bike always tend to overstate the mileage. As you would expect, almost all the bikes put up for sale are reported to see mileages of between 50 – 60 kmpl.

Here is a summary of what various people report on the fuel consumption:

Should you buy a Maestro?

Overall, the average mileage that most people seem to report under city conditions is between 40-45 kmpl. Most of these people also appear to be happy with the mileage they were able to extract. I can see why though. Most of the other scooters in the segment too seem to be offering around the same mileage. For example, Mahindra Rodeo offers 45 kmpl while Kinetic Flyte is around 40 kmpl. Honda Dio is again in the 45 kmpl range. The only  scooter that is sub-par in this comparison is the Honda Aviator at less than 40 kmpl. Given this is the case, the thumbs are definitely up for the Hero Maestro.

Mahindra Rodeo RZ

Mahindra is one of the latest entrants to the scooter segment. The company has been making scooters since 2009 and Rodeo is one of its most popular offerings. The newly launched Mahindra Rodeo RZ comes with a 125CC engine that provides 6 KW of power at 7000 RPM. That’s the same as what is provided by the 109CC engine of Honda Aviator  (8 BHP at 8000 RPM). Mahindra Rodeo is available at a price of Rs. 46,695 (ex-showroom) from Delhi. This is lower than the price of Honda Dio 110CC, TVS Wego and the Aviator but higher than Kinetic Sym Flyte.

Mahindra Rodeo RZ Mileage

Mileage Claimed by Mahindra

According to Mahindra, the latest variant of the Rodeo comes with a new Z-Series engine that has advanced dual curve digital ignition system. This is designed to offer a pretty decent mileage of 59.38 kmpl under standard ARAI test conditions. Among all the scooters that we have reviewed till now, this is the highest mileage claimed by any vehicle. That does not necessarily mean it translates to happiness among real customers. Let’s see what real customers say.

Customer Mileage Reviews

In their test drive of the new Rodeo RZ, Overdrive claims that the actual mileage seen on road is pretty lower than what the company claims. OverDrive noticed a city mileage of just around 45.6 kmpl while the fuel efficiency improves to 56.2 kmpl on highways. Another website, PricesofIndia gives a thumbs down with respect to the actual mileage as well. According to them, the Mahindra Rodeo RZ extracts only around 45 kmpl, presumably under city conditions. This review is also backed by another website, IndiaMart, who have reported a mileage of 45 kmpl.

BikeDekho though reports a much better fuel consumption. According to them, the new Rodeo RZ offers a mileage of close to 53 kmpl. However more than one of their readers have posted their own reviews claiming the actual city mileage is only around 25-30 kmpl. That’s pretty low and I am still unsure if this is an outlier and needs to be considered.

Vicky.in, a popular online retailer of automobiles, offers the best mileage review for the Rodeo RZ. They report a mileage of around 56 kmpl under ARAI test conditions. Like with the official claim though, you should take this mileage too with a grain of salt considering that these conditions differ widely from actual road conditions.

Should you buy Rodeo RZ?

Overall, the mileage you can practically expect from the Mahindra Rodeo RZ should be around 45 kmpl. Although this is much lower than what Mahindra claims in their official capacity, this is not too different from what the rest in the pact claim. Maybe Activa is the only scooter that can realistically offer a better mileage. So this being the case, I would suggest you to look into the other features offered by scooters before you make a choice. The mileage seems to be comparable to most other variants out there in the market.

Honda Aviator

Honda India launched its popular Aviator range of scooters way back in 2009. Last year, the company launched an upgraded version of the vehicle. The scooter comes with a 109cc 4 stroke engine delivering  8 BHP power at 8000 rpm and a 6 liter fuel tank. Aviator standard is now available at an on-road price of Rs. 51,650 while Aviator Deluxe is available for Rs. 57,291 – both prices calculated for the Delhi market.

Honda Aviator Mileage

Honda Aviator Mileage

There is no advertised mileage for Honda Aviator put up on the Honda website. However, from what I could gather through research online, the Deluxe variant of Honda Aviator is expected to offer a decent 52 kmpl mileage under standard conditions. When I say standard conditions, it means conditions that are pretty conducive for very low fuel consumption, which means under regular city conditions, it could be difficult to reach this mileage

Honda Aviator Fuel Efficiency Customer Feedback

According to a little known website called ScootyPrice, Aviator offers a mileage of between 45-48 kilometers per liter. Quite a few “customers” to the website’s post have observed a mileage of between 50-55 kmpl. That is not to say everyone’s happy though. A lot more customers also complain of mileage as low as 35 kmpl. In fact, a few customers have even reported the low mileage on ConsumerComplaints.in – a popular consumer complaints forum.

Like in the case of Kinetic Flyte, Honda Aviator too has a pretty ordinary 3/5 rating with respect to fuel consumption on the user reviews website, MouthShut. This rating comes from over 82 customer reviews. According to one user, the mileage is as good as 46 kmpl, while another reports 30 kmpl. Apparently, the mileage falls from 45 kmpl to 30 kmpl after the first service according to a review from a third customer.

On BikeAdvice, a commenter who claims to have tested the scooter exhaustively claims that the Honda Aviator offers a mileage of 30-40 kmpl in city conditions while that in highways goes up as high as 45-50 kmpl.

Should You Buy Aviator?

A summary of the mileage reviews for the Aviator is showcased at the bottom of this paragraph. If you compare this with the mileages offered by the Activa (54 kmpl), Honda Dio (40-43) or TVS Wego (40-50), you will see that the mileage you can realistically expect is not much. Of course this seems to be a better bet than Kinetic Flyte, but that’s not saying much. This doesn’t seem to be a bad choice, but just that there are better products than this in the market. You can probably go for them instead.

Kinetic Sym Flyte

Kinetic launched the Sym Flyte way back in 2007. After acquiring Kinetic in late 2008, Mahindra relaunched the Kinetic Flyte in 2009. The Kinetic Flyte is a good 125cc cylinder scooter that compares well against its peers like Honda Activa and is targeted at the women. The scooter comes with front fueling, telescopic front suspension and 130mm brakes at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 41,200 in Delhi.

KInetic Sym Flyte Mileage

Kinetic Flyte Mileage

According to the official releases, Kinetic Flyte can offer its riders a mileage of around 45 kilometers for a liter of petrol. That’s not saying a lot considering that the official mileage claimed for rivals like Activa, Dio and Wego are much higher. Activa claims a mileage of 54 kmpl, Dio claims 55 kmpl while the mileage for Wego is 50 kmpl.

Mileage Reviews from Customers

Considering that the officially claimed fuel efficiency is itself not much, I don’t expect customers to see drastically different results. On TeamBHP, the popular automobile forum, a customer who tested it with a pillion rider observed 40-42 kmpl fuel consumption on the Flyte (apparently this dropped to between 35-40 after few months of usage and servicing). Another female rider who rides single though says she consistently sees above 50 kmpl on her scooter.

On MouthShut, 79 customers have cumulatively rated the Kinetic Flyte an ordinary 3/5 for mileage. A lot of customers report a mileage of not over 40 in city traffic conditions – even customers who are otherwise fine with the scooter say you cannot expect a mileage of over 45 in highways.

On Olx, people selling their used Kinetic Flyte claim mileages between 30-35 kmpl on an average. The only outlier is a person who claims to see a 55 kmpl on his scooter. I guess if he indeed was seeing that kind of a mileage, he wouldn’t be selling this rare piece.

Final Verdict

The Kinetic Flyte does not come cheap at an ex-showroom price of over 40K. At that price, you have much better scooters that not only come with amazing mileages, but also much stylish looks. Mahindra is an awesome company but they need to do better if they have to gain a better foothold in the two wheeler market. A mileage of 35-40 kmpl is nothing to brag about. Avoid this if you can.

Dio’s newest variant comes with a slightly larger engine (110cc vs. 102cc in the older variant). But this is not the only change. Honda claims the new 110cc Dio has a fuel efficiency which is 15% more than the older model. The scooter is expected to offer a mileage of 55 kilometers per liter of petrol.

Mileage Reviews From Honda Dio 110cc Testers

Let’s start with what the reviewers from ZigWheels observed. In their test drive, they report a not-too-bad mileage of 40-43 kmpl on city roads. However, do note that the test drive was done by a hefty 100kg male. So if you are a regular sized female, expect to see more mileage; at least going by what ZigWheels observed.

Top Gear’s review of the scooter aligns pretty much with what ZigWheels has posted. Their test drive notes a city road mileage of around 48.5 km/l. But if you thought that was good enough, brace yourself for something better as according to a reviewer on BikeDekho, the scooter consistently provides a mileage of over 50 kmpl.

On MouthShut, few reviews are from customers who have purchased the latest variant of Honda Dio. Of them, only one talks specifically about the mileage and this user has reported that they do not see anything more than 30-35 kmpl. That’s a pretty low mileage for a 110cc light build scooter. But to be fair, this is only one review and do not base your decision on just one review.

Looking into what other people who have tested the scooter have noted, it looks like the most realistic mileage that you may expect is indeed in the 40-43 kmpl range. According to a review on MaxAbout, the mileage they derived was exactly that. Checking out classifieds websites like Olx and Quikr, the mileage appears to be around 40-45 kmpl again.

Is Honda Dio 110cc mileage good enough?

It definitely is, but I don’t think it’s better than TVS Wego from a mileage perspective. TVS Wego, if you remember, had customers consistently reporting a mileage of over 50 kmpl although there were quite a few reports of around 45kmpl. But considering that the average tended to be closer to 50 kmpl, I would go for a Wego than Honda Dio 110cc considering the latter is surely going to give me a lesser mileage.
