Hero Maestro

Hero Maestro Mileage

Traditionally motorcycle manufacturers have targeted the males with their bikes and the scooters are targeted primarily at the female audience. Even those of them who target the males with their scooters position them as a unisex model. Hero Maestro is one of the few scooters targeted primarily at the males. The scooter is equipped with a 4-stroke, single cylinder 109cc engine offering a maximum power of 6 kw and torque of 9.10 Nm. Specs wise, the Hero Maestro is very much like the Honda Aviator 109CC.

At 109cc, the Hero Maestro has the same engine cylinder volume as the Honda Dream Yuga. Given that the Yuga claims a mileage of 72 kmpl, you would imagine a relatively lighter scooter like Hero Maestro to offer a much higher fuel efficiency. But at first look, that doesn’t seem to be the case. According to the company officials, the Maestro offers a mileage of just around 60 kmpl. Is that what everyone riding the scooter is reporting? Let’s find out.

Hero Maestro Customer Reviews

According to one customer reviewing his newly purchased Hero Maestro on BikeDekho, the scooter is expected to offer a relatively low mileage till the third service post which the mileage should shoot to 55-60 kmpl. As a new customer though, he reports a mileage of 41.7 kmpl in city conditions. On Vicky.in, a customer of two months has again reported a mileage of between 40 – 41 kmpl.

These reported mileages are for city conditions. On highways, the mileage could be closer to the officially claimed consumption levels. That is exactly what MaxAbout is reporting. In their test drive, they report a mileage of 42 kmpl under city conditions and a much better 60 kmpl on the highways. That’s very similar to what the folks at IamaBiker note,at least in the city conditions. In their review, they write that the reported mileage on city roads is 43 kmpl although on the highways, the fuel consumption is not very high at 47 kmpl. AutoEmpyrean too report a mileage of between 40-45 kmpl in their test drive.

Often times, MouthShut is a great place to see what disgruntled customers (who are more likely to review a product that those happy with a product) have to say about the mileage on their vehicles. There are 23 reviews for the Hero Maestro and overall, these reviewers have given the scooter a 4/5 for fuel consumption. Most of these reviewers report a mileage of anywhere between 45 – 51 kmpl; except for one reviewer who reports 40 kmpl before servicing.

As with MouthShut, it is also always nice to see what people on classifieds like Olx or Quikr have to say considering people selling a bike always tend to overstate the mileage. As you would expect, almost all the bikes put up for sale are reported to see mileages of between 50 – 60 kmpl.

Here is a summary of what various people report on the fuel consumption:

Source City Conditions (kmpl) Highways (kmpl)
Official 60
BikeDekho 41.7
Vicky.in 40-41
MaxAbout 42 60
IamaBiker 43 47
AutoEmpyrean 40-45
MouthShut 45-51
Olx 50-60

Should you buy a Maestro?

Overall, the average mileage that most people seem to report under city conditions is between 40-45 kmpl. Most of these people also appear to be happy with the mileage they were able to extract. I can see why though. Most of the other scooters in the segment too seem to be offering around the same mileage. For example, Mahindra Rodeo offers 45 kmpl while Kinetic Flyte is around 40 kmpl. Honda Dio is again in the 45 kmpl range. The only  scooter that is sub-par in this comparison is the Honda Aviator at less than 40 kmpl. Given this is the case, the thumbs are definitely up for the Hero Maestro.

  1. Sir,
I have purchased maestro before five months. It is one of the best scooter available in india. Its mileage ( I have tested three times) is more than 55-58 Km in normal roads in Kerala.

  2. I purchased one year back @ DELHI. Scooter is very good. Engine has excellent power and is smooth to drive BUT mileage is NOT so good. I can get up to only 35-40 KM/L.

  3. Sir,

  4. sir,
i have purchase hero maestro six month before and maestro give me avg 53-54 km,
i am happy about my maestro and thanks to hero motor-corp option to Honda activa .

    1. Same experience as mine. Maybe, I got a low mileage because I drive in full throttle while enjoying the pickup. Accelerating and then decelerating continuously does lower the mileage drastically.

  5. I have bought Maestro before three week mileage is 40 km (without service) pickup good, smart looking, powerful, smoothly drive. I am happy about my Maestro. Maestro better than any other scooter. If anybody want to buy a scooter, than buy Maestro first choice right choice.

i’ve purchased 100 rs of petrol 3 times…and still the empty fuel indicator is blinking……i don’t know what to do to increase the mileage…in 4.5 Lts,only 100 Km is travelled..!!

    1. But my colleague in office is getting 55KM/L & he is very happy with it & was suggesting me too to buy Maestro, as I was more interested in WEGO. As it has same engine as Activa.
I too liked this bike, but my concern is weight, as I want it for me + my wife both.

  11. I purchased a Maestro in January and I’m absolutely in love with the scooter. I rate it higher than Activa. I get a very good mileage of 45-50 KM where riding is mostly in city.

    1. POWER-cum-mileage then go for SUZUKI SWISH

Design/Style-cum-mileage then go for Hero Maestro

I enquired with the Hero dealer who assured me 42-43 kmpl overall. Whereas, the Suzuki Swish dealer assured me 52 kmpl on average.

To get very good mileage: Better ride the vehicle between 40 to 60 Kmph (i.e. at least 50 on average) for the FIRST 750 Kms or till FIRST servicing. Then vehicle gets tuned to this speed. It’s even good to maintain the same 50 KMPH till 2nd servicing.

  12. I recently purchased my new maestro-

    POSITIVE POINTS
    1. NICE PICKUP
    2. SMARTER LOOKS
    3. GOOD MILEGE
    4. DIGITAL METER

    NEGATIVE POINTS
    1. SUSPENSION NOT GOOD.
    2. BRAKING SYSTEM.

MILEAGE DETAILS. I AM GETTING MILEAGE OF ABOUT 42 TO 46 KM BEFORE FIRST SERVICING. AFTER FIRST SERVICING MILEAGE SHOULD BE AROUND 50.

    OVERALL. (4/5)

  13. Hello everyone ,

I am planing to buy a Maestro. So please tell me if this is a good bike and is it heavy like Activa. Please reply

  14. If you are FINE with the styling/overall look of Honda activa, I STRONGLY suggest YOU to BUY SUZUKI Swish (Power+Mileage). If you more particular to have a STYLISH scooter and can compromise little on mileage, you can buy HERO Maestro.

    Test Ride Experience:

SUZUKI Swish: I drove for about 3 Kms. Tested the throttle (5/5), DESIGN/Style (3/5), Braking(4.5/5), Comfort(Suspension)(5/5) etc. Mileage: Don’t know. DEALER, Salesman, Showroom Mechanic(Met all three separately) STRONGLY assured 52 on average.

    HERO Maestro:
Since both the showrooms are very near to each other, I drove for about same 3 Kms stretch. Tested the throttle (3.5/5), DESIGN/Style (5/5),Braking(3.5/5), Comfort(Suspension)(4/5) etc. Mileage: Don’t know. Salesman STRONGLY assured 42-43 on average.

Now it’s up to you to decide!

  15. I am planning to purchase a Maestro. But I am worried about milage ie 30 to 40 kmpl. So now I am thinking about TVS JUPITER. Please advise me

  16. I don’t know how they’re getting mileage as high as 45-50. My Maestro purchased in October 2012 has given me a mileage of not more than 30kpl on average. Even if I try to keep the scooterette running in economy, it will not go further than 35kpl

  17. I purchased a Maestro on 26th September 2013. It is in good condition but I am not satisfied with its mileage. I’m getting just around 30 kilometers for 100 rupees of petrol. Please advice me on how I should increase my mileage. I am yet to complete the first servicing.

    1. After first servicing, I am sure you would be getting a mileage of around 50kms/ltr. As of now, try to maintain a steady speed of 30-50, don’t use sudden brakes, this will surely increase the mileage.

  18. I purchased my Maestro on 17/9/13. Until the first service, it was giving a mileage of 45kms. After the first servicing I am getting mileage around 55kms.
Really a worth for money, safe & enjoyable to ride.

  19. Very bad experience with Maestro in mileage. Getting hardly 30 kmpl after first service. Feeling a lot of pain while paying at fuel station

  20. Five days ago, my Maestro got dry. I filled one liter of petrol. My Hero Maestro then ran 61 km (with economy speed). I have done 15 servicings till now and my Scooty has run 15,000+ kilomters.

  21. I have been riding Maestro since last 4 months and till first servicing it showing 25-30 km/lt, after the first servicing and some engine tuning now mileage is 38-42 km/lt, serving engineers said that after 3rd servicing mileage will go 50 plus.

  22. I am planning to buy a HERO MAESTRO…….but i am totally confused about its mileage…..because one of my friends who owned MAESTRO told me that he gets mileage more than 50km/ltr, but same time another friend who bought this gets only 25km/ltr…….which is true…..please share what is the correct mileage of HERO MAESTRO

  23. I have been riding Maestro since last 2 months and till first servicing it showing 25-30 km/lt,serving engineers said that after 1st servicing mileage will go 40 plus.that after 3rd servicing mileage will go 50 plus.

  24. I purchased a Maestro on 26th Nov 2014 Very bad experience with Maestro in mileage. Getting hardly 30 kmpl after first service.

  25. I have purchased Maestro in July `14. It is a good scooter but I have been made fool by Hero and their dealer by claiming its mileage as 67+ km/ltr. of petrol but it has never given me the mileage more than 35 km. As a matter of fact I have been going to my office which is about 84km to & fro and it is a straight route with out any traffic signal (except one) even than it does not crosses over 35km. What a Hero organisation is?. They are more interested in selling the product and even can make false assurance and promise.

  26. Hi
Its been 55 days I’ve bought maestro. Before first service I checked mileage multiple times, it was 42,41,42, just before service I got 47.5.

I drive under 40kmph and 70% driving is done on plain empty roads.
After first service I got 44.5 only.
