Suzuki Access 125

Suzuki Access Mileage

We just discussed the Suzuki Swish 125 earlier in the day. This scooter was basically built off the engine of the Suzuki Access 125. Like the Swish, Access too is a 125cc scooter just with a design that was conceptualized earlier than the Swish.

Suzuki Access Mileage

Suzuki Access carries a 124cc 4 stroke single cylinder engine that delivers a power of 8.5 BHP and 9.8 Nm torque. If you look at this, this is all basically the same as Suzuki Swish. There is one major difference though. The Suzuki Access kerb weighs 115 kgs whereas Swish weighs only 110 kg. This has a huge impact on the mileage since the Access is basically pulling more weight for the power than Swish which means it could be offering a lower mileage than Swish.

Official Mileage Claim

Since the Swish and Access are different only in the exteriors, the mileage is inversely proportional to the weight of these scooters . As we had noted earlier, the Swish offers a mileage of 60 kmpl. Considering that the Access is 5kgs heavier than the Swish, the economy provided is expected to be much lower, and it evidently is. According to documents from the company, the Suzuki Access can offer 50.22 kmpl under standard test conditions. Do note that the real world mileages can go much lower than this.

Customer Reviews on Fuel Consumption

Let’s start with the review from BikeAdvice. The website rates the average mileage on the Access to be around 37.5 kmpl. On city roads, this apparently works out to be around 33 kmpl while on highways it’s 43 kmpl. BharathAutos has a better review. According to their report, you can draw as much as 44.7 kmpl on the Access. It’s not been mentioned if this is on city roads or highways although I presume this is on the highways.

IndianDrives calls the Suzuki Access the “most powerful” sco0ter in its category. At the same time, the website calls the design “ugly styled” and “nothing to impress”. The mileage doesn’t seem to impress either. In their test drive, the website was able to see 35 kmpl on city roads. That’s pretty low for a scooter.

A number of Access customers have reviewed their bike on BikeDekho.com. While some people have complained about after-sales service, a lot other customers have been happy with the performance of the bike. One complaint I could see from more than one customer was on the fuel economy. The reported mileage from these customers was anywhere between 28-32 kmpl on city roads and 35 kmpl on highways. If this is true, then this is ridiculously low and you should be staying away from the bike.

To decide, we need to look on to MouthShut. There are 172 reviews for the Access on this user review website and the customers have in all rated the scooter a 3/5 on mileage. This is definitely on the low side considering we have more powerful bikes in the 150cc/180cc range that get a 4/5 rating. Reading through the reviews, one can see why. There are several reviews reporting a mileage of around 20-25 kmpl. However, I should point out that there are also customers who have reported mileages around 40 kmpl on city roads. So I guess it’s a kind of a mixed bag.

As expected, the  mileage reported on Olx is on the higher side. The average customer putting up his/her scooter on sale here has reported a fuel economy of around 30-45 kmpl.

A consolidated report of mileages reported by various sources is posted below. One thing is clear. This scooter definitely has mileage issues, even though it is not apparent due to infrequent reporting. I would personally recommend the Swish over Access considering it is more stylish and can deliver a better economy. In any case, should you still be interested in the Access, you can get one at a price of Rs. 51,205 on-road Delhi – just a thousand bucks or so cheaper than Swish.

  1. I am planning to buy scooter among Access 125, activa, Rodeo RZ and Duro Dz, can anybody suggest which one will be better for city riding.

    1. From your choices, go for Access. It has plenty of power when you need to travel in stop-go city traffic. I have been using one for 3 years now, and get mileage of 45kmpl, when I drive at 60kmph max, and 50kmpl economy when drive at 50kmph max. These are got in a mix of mostly Mumbai highway and some city traffic.

The looks may feel kinda odd initially, but it grows on you. Seating is comfortable for pillion too.

However considering Swish is the same internals as Access but lighter, I would suggest you go for Swish.

    1. I am using my new access 125 from may 21, 2013. Being nearly upto 3 months old, It is now giving a mileage of 47 kmpl in the city roads and 49 kmpl in the highways. It gives a smooth ride without any vibrations upto 65 kmph speed.

  2. I bought my Access on 19-03-2013 and it gives me a mileage of about 46 Kmpl, and no complaints. When me and my friend went to Paithalmala, a big mountain region in Kerala-Karnataka, it gave more than 20 km on big slope. My friends came in two vehicles, one Honda Activa, and another one was Honda Unicorn. At the beginning they did not feel any difficulties, in the middle their Activa could not go fast enough and they felt it was slower. After this journey, their Activa had engine complaint and filter problems as well. So I suggest buy an Access

  3. This is my request to all of you considering the fuel price which is going up at the speed of a rocket. At this jucnture, our Indian money value has come down. So don’t buy the Access scooter which was promised 50-55 kmpl by the company. It can hardly give 40-45 kmpl (if lucky). After 2 years, it can give a maximum of 30 kmpl. Regarding service, you can be assured that this will be worse than any other scooter. I am not sure why the government of India does not ban these type of companies that openly misguide the public.

    1. Cool buddy! Have you had any clash with Suzuki? One just useless comment like yours’ may misguide many people who visit this website and may change their opinion on this bike. How can you say that the mileage will drop after 2 years? Or else other scooters are giving 80 or 90 mileage? We have been given plenty of power in place of slightly lower mileage than what Activa offers. You seem to be asking for a 60 mileage even on a 250cc bike. Don’t make foolish comments in public. Access is one of the best scooters of India, which is powerful and reliable.

  4. Guys please suggest which scooter I should buy – Suzuki Access or Honda Activa? I am so confused. Which scooter is better option in all ways.

    1. Suzuki Access

I bought my Access on August 2008. My scooter has run without any problem till date. No single rupee expended on maintenance & parts till now except proper & timely services at Suzuki service station. It’s rough & tough. For mileage it gives me 38-42 kmpl in city and 52-57 on highway (if you maintain speed between 40 – 55 kmph on highway with & without pillion). It gives a smooth ride without any vibrations. Test up to 87-92 kmph if wind speed & position is natural. Single run without stop 250 km or maybe more no problem without getting tired. I also tried Activa, Wego, Duro but none matchd & competed with Suzuki Access in any spec. To decide which one to buy, compare technical specifications of all scooters with Suzuki Access. I think powerful 125cc Access give you the boost in your riding experience, not the other 109cc scooter models. In my experience, I suggest Suzuki Access or you may also try Suzuki Swish. They differ design-wise but technically are the same. One more thing, don’t purchase any accessory not given by Suzuki. I found the plain scooter gave much better experience and has better looks than with accessories like local vendor iron guard to cover scooter. All local accessories give problem in riding experience and damage scooter after some time. Also don’t take chance to service by street type local servicemen – they create problem & change engine RPM & oil settings and have not understood the Access technology till date. So the mileage & smooth riding may be disturbed.

  5. I purchased Access 125 last month and after one month, I went for the first servicing. When I calculated the average, it was shocking as it was just 28 kmpl

  6. I am physically handicapped. Please suggest which scooter I should go for – Suzuki Access or Honda Activa? I am so confused. Which scooter is better option in all aspects?
