Honda CB Unicorn Dazzler

Honda CB Unicorn Dazzler is a motorcycle in the 150cc segment launched by the company in 2010. A Deluxe variant of the CB Unicorn Dazzler in dual-tone colours was launched last year. The Unicorn Dazzler is equipped with a 149.1cc 4-stroke SI engine that delivers a max power of 14 BHP and torque of 1.3 Kg-m (12.8 Nm). Some special features of the bike include a screenless front cowl, a 240mm front disk brake and a mono suspension suitable for ‘racing’ conditions – so the company says. A new CB Unicorn Dazzler can be yours in Delhi at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 66,738 while the dual colour DLX variant can be obtained for Rs. 67,757.

Honda CB Unicorn Dazzler Mileage

Honda CB UnicornDazzler  Fuel Economy Claim

In the 150cc segment, we have reviewed quite a few bikes in the past. The official mileage claimed by a lot of these bikes is not over 55 kmpl. Yamaha Frazer for instance claims a mileage of 50.81 kmpl while the Hero Impulse and Yamaha FZ16 fetch 55 kmpl and 50.81 kmpl respectively. Only the Bajaj Discover 150cc fetches a good 64 kmpl under standard test conditions. Going by these official claims, Honda CB Unicorn Dazzler is the second best of the lot. Honda claims the CB Unicorn Dazzler can extract 60 kmpl under standard conditions.

Customer Reviews Under Real World Conditions

How closer to the official mileage does the CB Unicorn Dazzler clock in real world conditions? MaxAbout reports that the mileage in city road conditions can drop to 50 kmpl. Their highways mileage is the same as the official claim. A user review report from BikeAdvice is on similar lines. Here, the reported mileage on city roads is 48 kmpl while this spikes up to as much  as 62 kmpl on the highways in the 55-65 kmph speed range.

A number of other reviews report similar fuel economy on the CB Unicorn Dazzler. IndiaGarage reports a fuel consumption efficiency of around 52-55 kmpl if you consistently drive around the 60 kmph mark.

Moving on to what customers at MouthShut say – there are 76 reviews for the Unicorn Dazzler and the overall rating for the bike in the fuel efficiency category is 4/5. The average mileage seen by the customers reporting here appears to be around 48-52 kmpl although there are outliers reporting 40 kmpl as well as 60 kmpl. Olx is no different. Customers here report a fuel economy in the range 45-55 kmpl.

So as I see this, the mileage that customers see on the bike is pretty consistent. The variation appears to happen in the way people use their bike. The Unicorn Dazzler gives a great mileage when you drive in the 50-60 kmph mark. Those customers who have to travel only small distances, the mileage seen may be less because it does take time for the engine to warm up and offer a good fuel economy. Similarly, customers who drive at top speeds of over 75 kmph, the vibration and the general conditions would reduce the mileage. So all in all, the performance of this bike is what you make of it. Here is a snapshot of what various reports claim on the mileage of the Dazzler 150cc

Yamaha Crux

Yamaha Crux is an entry level 106CC first launched in 2006. Since its launch, the Crux has undergone a few revamps, as late as last year. At an ex-showroom price of Rs. 32,990 in Delhi, Yamaha Crux is a pretty good value for money bike. The model comes with a 4 stroke single cylinder engine that delivers a max power of 7.6 PS and 7.5 Nm torque. As this is an entry level bike, you cannot expect the high end features that are available on other bikes that are in the 125+CC range. Some features on the bike include adjustable shock absorbers, multi-reflector headlights and a 130 diameter drum brake.

Yamaha Crux Mileage

Official Yamaha Crux Mileage

Yamaha Crux comes with a 11 liter fuel tank. For an entry level motorcycle, mileage is extremely crucial and if what the company claims is true, you have one really amazing bike here. According to Yamaha, the Crux delivers 91 kmpl fuel economy under standard test conditions. Do note that real world riding conditions are many times different from the standard test conditions. So check out what other people who have tested the bike have to say below before coming to a conclusion.

Yamaha Crux Fuel Economy Reviews

Let’s check with some of the most reliable third party  reviews to start with. According to BikeDekho, the Yamaha Crux can provide you with a mileage of 62.3 kmpl under city conditions. Gaadi, the popular online car store reports in its report that the mileage under standard conditions is 75.47 kmpl (as claimed by Yamaha, but it is not clear how this is different from the 91 kmpl we have seen reported from elsewhere). Another online car store Vicky again reports a mileage under standard conditions to be 78 kmpl.

To check out a more hands-on review, let’s look at BikeAdvice. In their review of the Yamaha Crux, the website reports that customers may expect 65 kmpl on city roads that may go as high as 75-80 kmpl on highways. MotorBeam finds the mileage to be something close in its review – 60 kmpl on city roads. A number of other websites report similar mileages. This includes MyIndiaGuide (reporting 62.3 kmpl) and TorqueInduction (60 kmpl).

To confirm these reports, let’s look directly at user reviews on MouthShut. There are 49 reviewers who have together given Yamaha Crux a 4/5 for fuel consumption efficiency. These customers have reported varying mileage on their bikes although the reported numbers more or less fall in the range 55-63 kmpl. There are other customers who have reported mileage as high as 70 kmpl but not many wh0 have reported below the 55 kmpl mark. On Olx, the range is much wider at 55-70 kmpl.

Yamaha Fazer

Yamaha Motors India launched the Fazer in 2009 and this bike is based completely off Yamaha FZ16 that we reviewed not so long ago. There are a few feature level changes though. Firstly, this bike is targeted at people who love long drives. In keeping with this requirement, the Yamaha Fazer comes with a modified seating to enable long time riding along with semi fairing and twin headlamps. The Yamaha Fazer is powered by a 153cc capacity 4 stroke engine delivering 14 PS power and 13.6 Nm torque. It has a fuel tank capacity of 12 liters. Yamaha Fazer is available at at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 76,500 at Delhi. In comparison, the FZ16 is available at Rs. 67,500.

Yamaha Fazer 150cc Mileage

Yamaha Fazer Mileage

Considering that the Yamaha Fazer is built off the internals of the FZ16, the claimed mileage is not too different. Although not available on the product brochure, the company claims the Fazer can fetch you around 50.81 kmpl mileage – the same as claimed for the FZ16. But do note that since this is a bike that is targeted at those looking for long ride, the  mileage delivered in the city may not exactly be the first priority.

Yamaha Fazer Customer Reviews

You will remember from our review of the FZ16 that mileage is not be its forte. A number of reviews online complained about its mileage hovering just around the 35-40 kmpl mark. But it’s heartening to see a number of customer rave about the Yamaha Fazer in their reviews online. The mileage reported on city roads is just slightly better. Customers reviewing it on MouthShut report a city mileage of anywhere between 35-45 kmpl while on the highways, they report a good 53 kmpl.

On xBHP, the reported mileage is worse. A number of customers there report seeing a mileage of just between 30-35 kmpl while one customer, probably an outlier, even reporting 20-25 kmpl as the norm on his bike. If this is the norm, then it’s quite a cause for concern.

Looking at reviews elsewhere, this definitely seems to be the norm. IndiaMart have reviewed the bike and while they have said good things about the other features, the fuel economy on Yamaha Fazer is reported to only be around the 35 kmpl mark. On IndiaGarage, a customer reports a mileage of 30 kmpl on his Fazer and as another user explains, the Fazer is a performance bike that is not built for good mileage. So you may have to go with what you get.

That being the case, you can take the report from MaxAbout to be the norm. They report a city mileage of 36 kmpl which increases to 45 kmpl on highways. On the classifieds site Olx too, things are not too different. The norm is 38-40 kmpl although you can see a few cheeky customers reporting mileages like 60 kmpl that even Yamaha does not promise.

Overall, my view is that this is an amazing bike if you are someone looking for the features and will actually use them as they are intended to. But if you are looking for a stylish bike that you will primarily use to commute to and from work, this may not be the right choice – you could save quite a bit of money by picking an alternate bike built for mileage. TVS Scooty Streak

Ever since TVS started targeting women for their scooter range in the  mid-90s,  Scooty  has come to be refer to any of the various two wheelers targeting the female population in the country. The TVS Scooty Streak is one of the latest entrants to the Scooty range having launched as late as 2009. This variant comes with a Litech engine and features like stylish LED lamps and mobile charger that would impress a lot of women.

TVS Scooty Streak Mileage

The Scooty Streak is powered by a 4 stroke single cylinder engine with a capacity of 87.8cc which can deliver up to 5 BHP power and 5.8 Nm torque. If you have been visiting this blog for the bikes, you would realize that the power delivered here is pretty low compared to what you see on the bikes – but then this is not a power bike but an easy to ride scooter targeting young women. The TVS Scooty Streak is available at a price of Rs. 42,300 ex-showroom Delhi.

Official TVS Scooty Streak Mileage

Given that TVS is targeting the young college going women with this scooter, the expectations around mileage are going to be high. At least from the ARAI testing conditions, the Scooty Streak does not disappoint. According to company officials, the Streak clocks 68 kilometers per litre of petrol under these standard conditions.

TVS Scooty Streak Customer Reviews

City road conditions have known to vastly affect the real-world mileage of motor vehicles. PricesofIndia reports that the mileage they draw from their test of the Scooty Streak is just 45 kmpl. Thankfully, IndiaBike.com differs in their opinion. In their test drive, the Scooty Streak delivered 59.6 kmpl on city roads and a top notch 77 kmpl on the highways delivering an overall mileage of 63.9 kmpl. WheelMela has a report that would place the mileage somewhere between the other two reviews. They report a 51 kmpl mileage on city roads.

Looking at the reviews from the bigger websites though could be disappointing. IndiaMart reports a mileage of 40 kmpl on the Scooty Streak while MaxAbout concurs with reports stating 40 kmpl in city roads and 62 kmpl on highways.

Given the fact that the mileage reviews differ so much between 40 kmpl and 59.6 kmpl even on city roads, it makes sense to see what posters on review sites like MouthShut got to say. Unfortunately, the reviews haven’t been great. One customer reports that her Streak only delivers between 35-40 kmpl on village roads. Another customer though reports 40-50 kmpl on city roads while the third is more specific and reports a 42-44 kmpl mileage. Ultimately they all point to a mileage of less than 50 kmpl. Even a classifieds site like Olx.in where customers normally put up a better mileage for their vehicles has an average mileage report of only between 45-50 kmpl.

So looking for a final say? The TVS Scooty Streak is amazing for many reasons. But the mileage aint one of them. If fuel economy is extremely important to you, check out alternatives because this is not the best of the lot. Here’s a snapshot of fuel consumption as reported by various sources.

Hero Passion X Pro

Hero Motocorp announced the Passion X Pro early into the new year in 2012. This 109cc motorbike which was showcased alongside the Ignitor 125cc and Maestro during the Auto Expo 2012 was just recently launched ahead of Diwali. Hero Passion XPro comes with a 109.1cc single cylinder 4 stroke engine that delivers a maximum power of 6.4 kw and a torque of 9.36 Nm. Other features on the bike include a combo console of digital and analong meter, a front disc brake, an option to go with tubeless tyres and a trapezoidal multi focal headlamp. Hero Motocorp has made the Passion X Pro available at a starting price of Rs. 46,800 (ex-showroom Delhi).

Hero Passion X Pro Mileage

Hero Passion X Pro Mileage

The Hero Passion X Pro is positioned as a bike for city use where mileage is extremely crucial. Also, considering the fact that this is an entry level model, the mileage is quite obviously a more important factor than performance or power features. The Hero Passion X Pro is expected to have a mileage of around 70 kmpl – do note that this is under standard testing conditions where the mileage is more favourable than what you may notice on city roads.

Hero Passion X Pro Test Drive Reviews

For a motorbike that is positioned as fuel efficient, 69 kmpl isn’t the highest. In comparison to the Passion X Pro, CB Twister has a mileage of around 70 kmpl, Bajaj Platina 75 kmpl, TVS Star City 83.9 kmpl and Honda Dream Yuga has a claimed fuel economy of 72 kmpl. All these are bikes in the 100cc – 110cc entry range although these are again the claimed mileages. More so, the Passion X Pro is in fact almost the same as Honda Twister (Hero and Honda make the bike with similar configurations and technology after the split-up). So let’s see how the Hero Passion X Pro actually measures up in the real world test drive.

PricesDekho have given the Hero Passion X Pro a thumbs up in their review. On their website, they report the actual reported mileage delivered by Passion X Pro to be around 65 kmpl. That’s pretty close to what the company claims and is definitely on par with what the rivals in the segment offer.

Tech2Auto in their review are positive about the bike and report a mileage of 65-70 on city roads with highways bringing in the reported 70 kmpl mileage. PricesofIndia on the other hand have not seen these high mileages. Their review points out to a review of only around 60 kmpl. This is also reported from IndiaGarage.com. The mileage reported gets down to 55 kmpl on Prodease although it is not clear if they have actually tested the bike (there does not seem to be a review here).

Considering this is a new launch, we are yet to see comprehensive mileage related reviews and complaints. However, if you are indeed planning to go for the Passion X Pro, I would recommend you to go through our article for the Honda CB Twister. Considering that both these bikes are evolved from the same technology, the mileage you should see on the Passion X Pro should not be very different from what is noted on the CB Twister.

Hero Impulse

Around the same time last year, Hero Motocorp launched Impulse – the sturdy 150cc motorbike that brought about a new segment in the market. Hero Impulse is India’s first dual purpose on-road off-road bike that comes with a number of good features like a high torque ATFT engine, Nitrox gas filled mono shock rear suspension, high ground clearance and a high mount muffler. The 149.2cc 4 stroke engine delivers a maximum power of 9.7 kw and 13.4 Nm torque. The Hero Impulse is available at an extremely attractive price of Rs. 69,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Hero Impulse Mileage

Claimed Hero Impulse Fuel Economy

Although the Hero Impulse is designed for use on the rough terrains, it is as much a bike for the highways. Consequently, mileage is definitely something that need to be looked at while buying the bike. While Hero Motocorp does not have any information on the fuel consumption in its e-brochure, according to Gaadi, the officially claimed mileage base is 55 kmpl on the Hero Impulse. In comparison, another 150cc bike, the Yamaha FZ16 is said to draw a mileage of 50.81 kmpl under standard test conditions.

Hero Impulse Customer Reviews On Mileage

A number of websites across the internet seem to concur on the mileage of the Hero Impulse. It is expected to give around 45-50 kmpl. But while websites like PricesofIndia and IndianBikePrices report this range other websites like NewsBeats and IndiaGarage report a broader range of between 40-55 kmpl.

Again, on the owners forum on xBHP, a number of Hero Impulse customers report varying mileages between 42kmpl and 50 kmpl. There are customers who report a lower mileage – one customer for instance reported a mileage of around 28 kmpl – but they are definitely outliers and do not have to be considered while accounting for the average fuel economy.

As always, the best place to check for real-world reviews of bikes is to look into classifieds sites (where you get the upper limit of range) and reviews sites like MouthShut (where disgruntled customers typically post a lower limit). First let’s look at MouthShut.com. There are 4 reviews for the Impulse and these reviewers have together offered a rating of 3/5 for fuel efficiency. It is not clear why the bike has fetched such an average rating. Looking into the individual reviews, one customer says he can see 48 kmpl on city roads and 55 kmpl on highways. Another customer reports a mileage of a much better 60 kmpl – given that this is a 150cc bike, the mileage reported is extremely good.

On Olx, where the reported mileages are expected to be higher than customer reviews from elsewhere, they are pretty much close to test drive reviews reported earlier. The various ad posters have claimed mileages of between 45 kmpl and 55 kmpl.

A summary of the mileages as reported by various riders is posted below.

Should you go for it? From what I see, the mileage is pretty decent for the bike specs. There are very few reviews from people who report a drastically lower mileage which underlines the consistent mileage delivered by the bike. It’s definitely a thumbs up for the bike from my end.

Bajaj Pulsar 150

It has been more than a decade since the Bajaj Pulsar was first launched. The motorbike is today available in multiple variants of engine capacity but it when it first started, it was with the 150cc. The Bajaj Pulsar 150CC bike available today comes with a 4 stroke DTS-i engine offering a very good 15.06 BHP power and 12.5 torque. As a comparison, the Yamaha FZ16 that comes with a 153cc engine only offers around 13.8 BHP. Bajaj Pulsar 150 is available in Delhi at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 67,110.

Bajaj Pulsar 150 Mileage

Bajaj Pulsar 150 Mileage

Until the Pulsar 150 was launched in 2001, one of the most important metrics to look at while purchasing a bike was the mileage. Bajaj Pulsar was one of the first bikes to put performance above fuel economy and launch a bike that would offer power albeit at a slight cost of the mileage. But with the ever increasing petrol prices, more and more customers are now starting to look back at good mileage as one of the most important parameter while purchasing a bike. And the latest Bajaj Pulsar 150 does not disappoint. The bike clocks 64 kmpl under standard test conditions.

Customer Reviews of Mileage

Standard test conditions rarely ever match the real life riding conditions. That is exactly why city conditions always bring out a much lower mileage than what companies claim. MaxAbout reports that city conditions could bring down the mileage from around 62 kmpl (that they observed on highways) to around 45 kmpl.

BikeDekho’s own test returned slightly different results. On highways, their test drive reported a mileage of  65 kmpl while on city roads, this was down to 56.5 kmpl. User reviews on BikeAdvice see users reporting anywhere between 40 kmpl and 60 kmpl. However the common refrain for those riding it on city roads is a mileage of around 50-52 kmpl.

In a comparative review of Bajaj Pulsar 150 against TVS Apache, Top Gear notes that the Pulsar returns a pretty good mileage of 52.6 kmpl in the city compared to the 48.7 kmpl fuel economy offered by Apache. IndianDrives has a pretty similar review of fuel economy. In their review, the website reports a mileage of 48 kmpl on city road conditions.

There are quite a few Pulsar 150 bikes on sale on Quikr. Overall, the mileage indicated by the customers appears to hover between 40-50 kmpl. The situation as reported by customers on Olx is slightly better. From a number of Pulsar 150 bikes on sale on the site, it looks like the average mileage as reported by the customers there is between 45-55 kmpl.

Lastly, let’s look at what customers on MouthShut have to say. There are around 46 reviews for the Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTS-i and the overall verdict is a pretty good 4/5 for fuel consumption. The mileage reported by the various reviewers hover between 40 – 53 kmpl. Only one user reports a mileage of less than that. So for average you can assume a mileage of 45 kmpl under city conditions.

I’ve summed up the mileage reported by various reviewers in the table below.

Bottomline, should you go for it? I would say that if you are considering a Pulsar 150, you should be looking at more parameters than just mileage. But as far as the fuel consumption is concerned, the Pulsar 150 gets a thumbs up from here. A 45-50 kmpl for a 150cc sounds like a pretty good deal to me. What are your views?

Honda CB Twister

Given the lower cost and relatively higher mileage, 110cc motorcycles are becoming increasingly popular in India. Honda has more than one bike in this segment. While we have already discussed the Dream Yuga, we are yet to review the mileage of Honda CB Twister which was launched much earlier back in 2009. This motorbike comes with a 109cc 4 stroke single cylinder engine that offers a max power of 9 BHP and a max torque of 9 Nm. The bike weights just over 108 kg and given the  light weight, it is a much preferred bike by people who would prefer utility over style. Honda CB Twister comes at a starting price of Rs. 45,156 ex-showroom in Delhi.

Honda CB Twister Mileage

Honda CB Twister Mileage

The last 110cc bike we discussed on MileageInfo was the TVS Star City. The bike claimed an official mileage of 83.9 kmpl while in real life testing conditions the bike was reported to draw around 65 kmpl. According to Honda, the CB Twister could draw about 70 kmpl of fuel efficiency under standard testing conditions. Given the difference in official mileage claims, can the CB Twister still match the Star City? Let’s check the reviews out.

User Reviews

Mileages reported by customers are normally lower than that claimed by the company primarily because customers test their bike mileages in city conditions whereas the company measures it under standard highway-like testing conditions. According to BikeDekho, the Honda CB Twister can give a mileage as claimed by the company on highways although in city driving conditions, this may fall down to 55 kmpl – the average they claim is 65 kmpl.

IndianDrives.com offers a pretty great review of the bike and in their test, the blog reports a mileage of 57.2 kmpl under mixed conditions (city + highways). They however claim the mileage gets better as you drive more and you could possibly reach 60+ kmpl after riding 1000 kilometers.

Grahaksevak is a consumer complaints forum. CB Twister customers who have posted on the site have reported a mileage of around 45-50 kmpl. MaxAbout though has a better review. They report a city road mileage of 55 kmpl while the fuel efficiency on the highways is a good 70 kmpl.

All said, if you are looking for a real good reason to buy a CB Twister, you should check out the reviews by customers on xBHP.com. In the ownership thread for CB Twister where people who own a Twister post, a lot of customers report a mileage of  over 70 kmpl even in city conditions. Customers also report mileage of close to 97 kmpl on the highways. The common refrain in the thread is that when you drive in the 40-50 kmph range on highways, you can see 80+ but while on the city roads, you can only expect around 65 kmpl – not bad at all and definitely on par with, if not better than what is reported by people riding the Star City or Honda Dream Yuga.

Before I finish the review, I would definitely want you to consider what people over at MouthShut.com are saying. There are 126 reviews for the CB Twister and they together rate the bike a 4/5 for fuel consumption. Most of the reviews report a mileage of between 60-70 kmpl with some readers again noting a better mileage of close to 80 kmpl while driving on the highways.

Here is a crisp summary of the mileages reported on various websites.

I do not say this everytime but the Honda CB Twister seems to be one bike where the reality appears better than company claims. You can definitely see awesome mileages in the right conditions. Elsewhere on everyday roads, you can still see a pretty good mileage close to what the company claims. If you are on the fence still, take my advice – go for it.

TVS Victor GLX 125

TVS Victor has been around in the market for more than eight years now. In fact, TVS had announced earlier this year that they plan to relaunch Victor around December. Despite being around for so long, TVS Victor has been one of the companies’ better selling models – it comes with a 4 stroke 125cc engine that provides a power of 10 BHP (7.36 kw) and torque of 9.8 Nm. These specs make us realize why this bike desperately needs a relaunch. The rivals in the space offer much better power at the same engine capacity. Yamaha Gladiator has a power of 8 kw while the Honda Stunner CBF has it much better at 11 BHP.

TVS Victor GLX 125cc Mileage

TVS Victor Mileage

TVS is pretty trusted among the middle class for offering bikes with consistently good fuel efficiency. With the TVS Victor, the company claims a mileage of 85 kmpl under standard test conditions. That’s a pretty tall claim considering the claimed mileage of a lot of the other bikes in the segment do not even come close. For instance, Yamaha Gladiator claims 67 kmpl, Honda Stunner is at 68.3 kmpl while Bajaj claims 65-70 kmpl on Discover 125ST and Hero claims 60 kmpl on the Ignitor.

Actual Mileage on TVS Victor GLX 125

If you are a regular reader here, you may have realized by now that the actual mileage extracted on motorbikes under regular city driving conditions are nowhere close to what is claimed under standard test conditions. The TVS Victor is no better. According to reviews from various customers over the  years on MouthShut.com, the TVS Victor GLX 125CC appears to offer a mileage of anywhere between 52 – 60 kmpl under city conditions. Most of the customers aren’t complaining though and they have all together rated the bike 4/5 on fuel consumption.

The scene is not very different on Olx.in. Sellers on the portal report a mileage of somewhere between 45 – 55 kmpl on their TVS Victor. One other customer reports  65 kmpl. But do take these mileages with a grain of salt considering that a lot of sellers do tend to overstate the mileage in order to gain a better deal on the sale.

Reviews and test drives from bloggers all seem to agree on the actual mileage being around the 50 kmpl mark. In their review, Vicky.in reports an “overall mileage” (city+highways) of around 55 kmpl on the Victor. Another site, IndiaBike report a mileage of 54.9 kmpl during their test drive.

Considering that the TVS Victor has been around for so long and not too many blogs were around back when it launched, you do not have as many test drives and reviews for this bike as you would for the newer launches. Nevertheless, reading the reviews from long time customers, one does get the feeling that this is a value for money bike. There are hardly any complaints from customers complaining of poor mileage. The lowest I have noticed is just around 45 kmpl which is still a decent fuel efficiency. Overall, if you are buying a TVS Victor GLX 125 today, you can expect a mileage of around 50 kmpl which is still best in the class. Still on the fence? My recommendation would be to go for it – although waiting for the relaunched Victor wouldn’t hurt either.

Traditionally motorcycle manufacturers have targeted the males with their bikes and the scooters are targeted primarily at the female audience. Even those of them who target the males with their scooters position them as a unisex model. Hero Maestro is one of the few scooters targeted primarily at the males. Given that the Yuga claims a mileage of 72 kmpl, you would imagine a relatively lighter scooter like Hero Maestro to offer a much higher fuel efficiency. But at first look, that doesn’t seem to be the case. According to the company officials, the Maestro offers a mileage of just around 60 kmpl. Is that what everyone riding the scooter is reporting? Let’s find out.

Hero Maestro Customer Reviews

According to one customer reviewing his newly purchased Hero Maestro on BikeDekho, the scooter is expected to offer a relatively low mileage till the third service post which the mileage should shoot to 55-60 kmpl. As a new customer though, he reports a mileage of 41.7 kmpl in city conditions. On Vicky.in, a customer of two months has again reported a mileage of between 40 – 41 kmpl.

These reported mileages are for city conditions. On highways, the mileage could be closer to the officially claimed consumption levels. That is exactly what MaxAbout is reporting. In their test drive, they report a mileage of 42 kmpl under city conditions and a much better 60 kmpl on the highways. That’s very similar to what the folks at IamaBiker note,at least in the city conditions. In their review, they write that the reported mileage on city roads is 43 kmpl although on the highways, the fuel consumption is not very high at 47 kmpl. AutoEmpyrean too report a mileage of between 40-45 kmpl in their test drive.

Often times, MouthShut is a great place to see what disgruntled customers (who are more likely to review a product that those happy with a product) have to say about the mileage on their vehicles. There are 23 reviews for the Hero Maestro and overall, these reviewers have given the scooter a 4/5 for fuel consumption. Most of these reviewers report a mileage of anywhere between 45 – 51 kmpl; except for one reviewer who reports 40 kmpl before servicing.

As with MouthShut, it is also always nice to see what people on classifieds like Olx or Quikr have to say considering people selling a bike always tend to overstate the mileage. As you would expect, almost all the bikes put up for sale are reported to see mileages of between 50 – 60 kmpl.

Here is a summary of what various people report on the fuel consumption:

Source City Conditions (kmpl) Highways (kmpl)
Official 60
BikeDekho 41.7
Vicky.in 40-41
MaxAbout 42 60
IamaBiker 43 47
AutoEmpyrean 40-45
MouthShut 45-51
Olx 50-60

Should you buy a Maestro?

Overall, the average mileage that most people seem to report under city conditions is between 40-45 kmpl. Most of these people also appear to be happy with the mileage they were able to extract. I can see why though. Most of the other scooters in the segment too seem to be offering around the same mileage. For example, Mahindra Rodeo offers 45 kmpl while Kinetic Flyte is around 40 kmpl. Honda Dio is again in the 45 kmpl range. The only  scooter that is sub-par in this comparison is the Honda Aviator at less than 40 kmpl. Given this is the case, the thumbs are definitely up for the Hero Maestro.
