Yamaha Fazer

Yamaha Fazer 150cc Mileage

Yamaha Motors India launched the Fazer in 2009 and this bike is based completely off Yamaha FZ16 that we reviewed not so long ago. There are a few feature level changes though. Firstly, this bike is targeted at people who love long drives. In keeping with this requirement, the Yamaha Fazer comes with a modified seating to enable long time riding along with semi fairing and twin headlamps. The Yamaha Fazer is powered by a 153cc capacity 4 stroke engine delivering 14 PS power and 13.6 Nm torque. It has a fuel tank capacity of 12 liters. Yamaha Fazer is available at at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 76,500 at Delhi. In comparison, the FZ16 is available at Rs. 67,500.

Yamaha Fazer Mileage

Considering that the Yamaha Fazer is built off the internals of the FZ16, the claimed mileage is not too different. Although not available on the product brochure, the company claims the Fazer can fetch you around 50.81 kmpl mileage – the same as claimed for the FZ16. But do note that since this is a bike that is targeted at those looking for long ride, the  mileage delivered in the city may not exactly be the first priority.

Yamaha Fazer Customer Reviews

You will remember from our review of the FZ16 that mileage is not be its forte. A number of reviews online complained about its mileage hovering just around the 35-40 kmpl mark. But it’s heartening to see a number of customer rave about the Yamaha Fazer in their reviews online. The mileage reported on city roads is just slightly better. Customers reviewing it on MouthShut report a city mileage of anywhere between 35-45 kmpl while on the highways, they report a good 53 kmpl.

On xBHP, the reported mileage is worse. A number of customers there report seeing a mileage of just between 30-35 kmpl while one customer, probably an outlier, even reporting 20-25 kmpl as the norm on his bike. If this is the norm, then it’s quite a cause for concern.

Looking at reviews elsewhere, this definitely seems to be the norm. IndiaMart have reviewed the bike and while they have said good things about the other features, the fuel economy on Yamaha Fazer is reported to only be around the 35 kmpl mark. On IndiaGarage, a customer reports a mileage of 30 kmpl on his Fazer and as another user explains, the Fazer is a performance bike that is not built for good mileage. So you may have to go with what you get.

That being the case, you can take the report from MaxAbout to be the norm. They report a city mileage of 36 kmpl which increases to 45 kmpl on highways. On the classifieds site Olx too, things are not too different. The norm is 38-40 kmpl although you can see a few cheeky customers reporting mileages like 60 kmpl that even Yamaha does not promise.

Overall, my view is that this is an amazing bike if you are someone looking for the features and will actually use them as they are intended to. But if you are looking for a stylish bike that you will primarily use to commute to and from work, this may not be the right choice – you could save quite a bit of money by picking an alternate bike built for mileage. Here is a snapshot of what various websites report on the mileage.

Source City Mileage (kmpl) Highways Mileage (kmpl)
Official 50.81
Mouthshut 35-45 53
xBHP 30-35

If you wanted mileage than please go and buy Platina, Discover and other bikes. Fazer has class. Trust me guys, I have the latest edition of military green Fazer, and I am more than happy with the turning heads!!!

  9. And please don’t forget that Fazer is engineered by Yamaha! So don’t compromise over mileage and spare parts. If you go to the authorized showrooms, they will guide you regarding damages and other stuffs.

    Yes Yamaha!

  10. Hi friends, I bought a Fazer limited edition two weeks back. It has very good looks on the road & is very comfortable to ride. I want to know how I can maintain my bike to give good mileage & what is the speed limit for better engine life.

  11. most of you dont get mileage because the carburator is not tuned properly. I first got mileage of 33kms. After that I said to the mechanic in service to tune the carbureator and now my bike gives mileage of 45+ kmpl. Do 100ml mileage test with mechanic to know more
