Best 150cc Bike In India 2012/2013

We have already reviewed most of the popular 150cc bikes in India. It’s now time for us to consolidate them all and put them up in one piece where you can know which of the bikes stands where in terms of performance, mileage and price. If you want to read the reviews of each of these bikes separately, you can view them by clicking here.

Specifications

Let us compare the most important specifications to get a feel of where things are going. The bikes are ranked in order of power.

Rank Bike Power Torque Official Mileage
1. Honda CBR 150R 17.8 PS 12.66 Nm
2. Yamaha YZF-R15 17 PS 15 Nm 46.93 kmpl
3. TVS Apache RTR 160 15.2 PS 13.1 Nm 54 kmpl
4. Bajaj Pulsar 15.06 PS 12.5 Nm 64 kmpl
5. Hero Xtreme 14.4 PS 12.80 Nm 65.1 kmpl
6. Hero Hunk 14.4 PS 12.80 Nm 65.1 kmpl
7. Honda CB Unicorn Dazzler 14 PS 12.8 Nm 60 kmpl
8. Yamaha FZ 16 14 PS 13.6 Nm 50.81 kmpl
9. Suzuki GS150R 13.8 PS 13.4 Nm 55.7 kmpl
10. Hero Achiever 13.5 PS 12.8 Nm 68 kmpl
11. Bajaj Discover 13 PS 12.75 Nm 72.3 kmpl
12. Yamaha SZ-X 12.1 PS 12.8 Nm 62.4 kmpl

So from the list of bikes that we have compared, the Honda CBR150R has the highest power. However, if you are also looking at a bike in the budget range, you should pick one that offers great mileage and comes available at a decent price. In that case, Bajaj Discover has the highest official claim for mileage among all the bikes that we have compared.

City Mileage Comparison

If there is one thing that I have learned since I started the blog, it is that the real world mileages are hardly anywhere close to those claimed by the company. Bikes that claim amazing mileages sometimes are pretty par if not worse than competition when it comes to real world mileages. So keeping that in mind, let us do a side-by-side comparison of the city mileages based on the average numbers reported by the various automobile blogs and customers.

Rank Bike Average City Mileage (kmpl)
1. Bajaj Discover 150 54.0
2. Hero Achiever 52.7
3. Yamaha SZ-x 50.7
4. Hero Hunk 50.7
5. Honda CB Unicorn Dazzler 50.3
6. Suzuki GS 150R 50
7. Bajaj Pulsar 150 49.3
8. TVS Apache RTR 160 48.4
9. Hero Xtreme 47.8
10. Honda CBR 150R 42.8
11. Yamaha FZ16 39.6
12. Yamaha YZF-R15 38.2

The above averages were calculated based on reports from some of the most popular online automobile destinations like BikeAdvice.in, MaxAbout, IndiaGarage, MotorBeam, Overdrive, BikeDekho and Gaadi.com. Besides, we also considered the customer reports from websites like MouthShut and Olx.

So if you look at this, the Bajaj Discover 150 is a clear winner with an average reported mileage of 54 kmpl – that’s an additional 2.3 kilometers for every liter of petrol as delivered by the second best that’s Hero Achiever. You will also notice that bikes that hog the bottom rung of the ladder in terms of power offered are also the ones that deliver the maximum mileage.

Here are some take-aways from the analysis of the two tables:

1. Bajaj Discover is THE bike for the budget conscious. It is not great from a power perspective, but is really the best in class for mileage.

2. Hero Hunk is a decent deal to go for. It ranks 6 out of 12 bikes on power (a couple of those ranking above are in the 1 lakh rupees price range!) while it ranks 4th in terms of mileage.

3. Bajaj Pulsar is in a similar position as the Hunk, except a bit lower. It ranks 4th in terms of power (again two bikes higher up are in the 1 lakh rupees price range) and 7th in terms of mileage.

So here’s the bottomline: If you are looking for power over mileage, it is Pulsar. If you are looking for power and mileage, it is Hunk. And if you are looking simply for mileage, it is Bajaj Discover 150.

Is there some other inference you could make from the tables above? Please do mention them in the comments. I would be glad to add them to the pointers above.

    thankyou

    1. According to ur requirement i think hunk is best choice for uā€¦..as per mileage and power and also comfort concern. As its of hero motocorp bike so less maintaince cost in long run.its body and looks are also too great.but this bike is designed for tall guys so if u r a short guy you can go for apache rtr 160/180 but apache mileage is less than hunk.

    2. Dear sir I want to buy 150cc bike which is the best in mileage(50) with abs and front-rear disc breaks. Please suggest. I am planning Hero-Xtreme, Hunk, Pulsar, Unicorn.

      Thank you.

Heavy duty running capacity, less maintaince cost in long run. Reasonable price,
Becz.. My requirement is to run bike 100-200 km
3 to 4 times in a week. So plz advice me as soon as
    possible. Thank you !!

    1. According to ur requirement i think hunk is best choice for u…..as per mileage and power concern. As its of hero motocorp bike so less maintaince cost in long run.its body and looks are also too great.but this bike is designed for tall guys so if u r a short guy you can go for apache rtr 160 but apache mileage is less than hunk.

  3. Hi Rajesh,

    Go for Fazer 153cc
    Good Pickup,
    Good Milage,
    Sports Look,
Overall awesome bike in 89000 on road……

    Go for yamaha….

  4. best bike doesnt necessarily mean price n mileage…it also means reasonable power, torque, mileage, price, looks,n above all refinement n efficiency…a bike with no refinement n with frequent maintenance issues is useless even if it has the best in class mileage or price… šŸ™‚

  5. Go for Suzuki GS 150R it best for long driver but compared to other 150cc bikes intial pickup is low in gs150r,but topspeed it will be the first. The main advantage is that it does not vibrate in top speed and it has good seating ergonomics.standard tyres,Overall best bike to buy. I recomond this bike.Better take a test ride of this bike.

  6. Hai frndz….
I am a college 3rd year student from Tamil Nadu . Now I am plan to buy a new bike in 150 segment .. I need a good look, mileage , and onroad price RS 80000 and not more than that..
In my mind I have some bikes that are
    1. Apache rtr 160 hyper edge 2012 model.
    2. Pulsar 150 cc dtsi
This two are the bikes are in my mind
Or I go for any other bikes
But I need an mileage of 48 to 50+ kmpl
Plse suggest me a good bike

    1. go for hero hunk, though its a little bit costly but comes under your bugdet, besides it requires cheap mantainence compare to others, mileage around 50,i have pulsar150 for 1 year.there is a chain problem with bajaj & also i had to replace my clutch plate & its cost me around 1600.so u can understand,& also out of every 5 bikes there r atleast 3 plusar,so hunk is combination of power & mileage.apache doesn’t go beyond 40 though its powerful but i suggest go for the beast

      1. Hai kamalesh…,
Thnk u for ur suggestion…it’s informative and u told that apache doesn’t go beyond 40kmpl but my frnd using 2012 model apache rtr 160 hyperedge… The beast … But he got an mileage of 50kmpl

        1. the official claim of apache rr 160 is 54kmpl so maximum it can give u 44kmpl mileage….but hunk 150 official mileage is 65kmpl so can easily get a mileage of 55+kmpl.

      2. Dear Kamlesh

I have owned a Pulsar 150 digital UG3 for the past 6 years and it doesn’t give me any problem at all. I just serviced it on time after 2500 kilometers. So whichever bike you own, it totally depends on the way you ride it. Pulsar is without doubt the best 150cc segment bike and the second is Honda CB Unicorn; not the Dazzler.

  7. I Would like to say few words about it.people are different with diferent views.some like mileage bikes, some like smooth speed up to 70-80kmph with better mileage,if such bikes are not available in market they could adjust to either mileage or speed.present bikes speed is limitted to 50kmph for smooth running without heavy engine sound now we would observe with any bike while crossing speed of 60kmph.I am a owner of 125 ccbike it gives around 70kmpl.at begining it gave mileage of 86 kmpl with power petrol and 75kmpl with normal petrol.mileage mainly depends on servicing/mechanic and driving conditions and replacing of old parts with new parts. All companies particularly BAJAJ succeded in 100 and 125 cc segments in mileage aspect with speed limited to 48/52kmph.But they failed utterly in 150cc segments.they could not discover reasons for it.The main reason is heavy weight of 140kg and above.when mass of bike increases definitly its mileage comes down.140 &above kgs bike are necessary for persons who weighs 80 to 100 kgs.but what about people /students/officials who weighs 55 to 75 kgs.we know that bike of 110kg bike is suitable to drive at 75 -80kmph withput any problem when road is in good condition.I am not considered here sports or crazy boys as they thought diferently. So many mechanics advisedme honda unicorn is best for speed at 80kmph without much engine sound.but it is suitable for persons who weighs above 85kgs because it weighs above 140 kgs.Why dont the maker reduce the weight of bike and increase mileage as weght of 110kg is enough to run the bike at 75-80kmph and to full fill dreams of persons who weighs 55-70 kgs.My advises are 1)reduce the weght of 150 cc bikes to 110-113.2)Make the bike to run smoothly like car/corn at 75-80kmph.It is very danger to handle bike of 140 kgs at high speed 75-80kmph.So you consider people and make bikes for their body weights duly keeping mileage ,smooth engine sound at 75-80kmph.Now you are making bikes by keeping crazy boys in mind. You make diferent bikes for sports segment with that name as per sprts requirement but you should not mix them now on words.

    1. I want suggestions and review about YAMAHA bikes SZ-R , SZ-RR, SZ-S..
      mileage ,performance, efficiency, Maintenance..

      please reply soon..

      Thanking you

    2. Brother, you seem to know quite a lot about bikes. On the other hand I am totally new in this sector. I am planning to buy a bike, but I am highly confused which one I should go with. I really liked your idea of weight to speed ratio of a bike. So I think you can help me out. I am a tall but lean and thin guy with height around 6ft and weight around 55kgs. My budget is around 80k, not more than that and I need a bike with good mileage around 50km/ltr, power, good braking and suspension, good looks ofcourse and reliable parts. Now, I know I am wanting too much in this prize but ‘yeh dil maange more’. If required, I am ready to do some modifications also. Please help me out.

    1. hero hunk 2013 as per mileage and realiblity concern …..and if u want only stylish looks go for yamaha as fz16 consumes lots of fuel and spare parts are also so costly

  8. Apache 160 cc is more powerfull than all a150 cc segment. And millege is too good . So go for new apache new beast 160 cc.

  9. Hi,
Please suggest a bike which is stylish, comfortable and easy to maintain..? I have 3 bikes in my mind
    1. Honda CBR 150
    2. Bajaj KTM duke
    3. Yamaha FZ S

Mileage is no concern I want just 40kmpl its just for city use.

    1. cbr 150r is best because of its dohc engine(closed loop) burns only a specific amont of fuel.,low torque(12.6) to improve mileage…,gud comfort, better handling compared to r15 ,low accelearation but have top speed..,high power (17.8),due to medium weight(138kg) ,the bike will not shiver when riding above 90km/hr..,gud performance n engine(honda).,it is superb for long rides

bajaj ktm duke & yamaha fzs have worst mileage ,but better pickup..than cbr..,riding smoothness is very low..,may shiver when riding above 70km/hr due to its low weight, suitable only in city conditions but lacks mileage

  10. i suggest for KTM duke 200. great naked look with appreciable pick n speed.fuel efficiency around 30 KMPL. if u need around 40 KMPL, u may opt for duke 125.

  11. plz suggest me best bike …from my short list…I don’t know much about bikes…and I have 2 travel 40 kms daily ..
    1) hero hunk
    2) yamaha fz
    3) suzuki gs 150 r
plz plz reply ..thanks in advance šŸ™‚

  12. Hi,

Please suggest me a good bike. I have following criteria
    1. Good Mileage
    2. Low/Average Maintenance Cost
    3. Not too heavy. (Should be able to pull for at least 2-3kms in case of petrol over or puncture)
    4. For daily use only (in traffic)
    5. Simple looks preferred (no stylish design)
    6. Top speed (no criteria. I won’t be racing with it)
Price Range: Upto 60,000INR or max 80,000INR

    1. Hi Fargi,

I’m also searching a bike as the same requirements if yours. As per my analysis and search I prefer to go for 125 CC bikes.

      I’m thinking on

Hero Glamor which is giving a mileage of 65 in city roads.
or Honda Shine which can give 60-65..

I believe we need to consider resale value also. After 2-3 years if you want to sell the bike for any reason at least you should get a better return.

      Let me know your thoughts.

      Kishore

      1. That’s informative! I was planning to get a new bike but was confused between between Pulsar 150 and Apache 160 newer model. So please suggest a better bike in the 150c range with a better mileage. Please reply asap. Help appreciated. Thank you

  13. Sir, as you are suggesting more for Hunk it means something is in bike. I’m too addicted by its performance but i heard a lot about its comfort i.e. bike is very uncomfortable and it too bit behind the look than Pulsar and Apache or FZ. So, please suggest me to go for it or not.

  14. Hi! I have planned to buy a bike within a range of 55-75k. My requirements are good looks and Good mileage. I’m confused between Hunk, pulsar 150,yamaha sz-r. Which bike should I go for? How about selecting Discover 125 ST. Will it be good

  15. please suggest me a good and best bike.. my height is 164 . I need a bike stylish, good performance, comfortable and good mileage.. in cost max Rs 80,000 ā€¦

My requirement is with good Mileage and good performance.
I am thinking for Buy Honda CB Trigger 150 cc please suggest

  17. Please suggest me a bike which would go at 95kmph within 5 or 6 seconds…..it should be comfortable for long riding too and average should be around 40kmpl…i already have pulsar 180,honda cbr 150r,hero honda cbz extreme….but these all have their own drawbacks like bad power output, low mileage, heavy weight…so please suggest me an option that would be really great!!!!

  18. Hero Hunk is best in all aspects. Best mileage, muscle look and amazing pick up than other bikes…Having it for 3 years and I have never been dissatisfied with it in anyway. It’s really a solid machine on road.

  19. What is your view about the Apache spare parts? Some people told me after riding Apache for 1 year, it needs a lot of maintenance and this is a money-wasted bike.

  20. guys …what do you think about honda trigger…i want to buy this bike..i want to know what are the poor side off this bike?

  21. I’m from Kerala , my height 5″3 , anybody please suggest for a suitable 150 cc bike for me, which has good mileage , value for money and resale value.

  22. Hey i want to buy a bike having 150cc and have thought about bajaj pulsar 150 but i want to know its perfect mileage

  23. Sir,
I want to purchase a bike. I have gone through internet reviews and websites of each bike, e.g. hero moto, honda, yamaha. I have my choice as Hero passion xpro. Please advice me about this bike. I have to travel maximum of 20 km daily. I have no concern about mileage. But riding should be comfortable and safe. Please tell me pros and cons of Hero passion xpro?
I am not thinking of purchasing Hero super splendor, Hero splendor plus also, but guide me how are these bike compared with Hero’s passion xpro.
I shall be waiting for your advice before buying in next 7-10 days.

  24. Hi Friends ,
Please help me,How is new hero xtreme
I’m totally confused with xtreme, FZ and Trigger – which one is the best? Please suggest me.

    1. Just don’t go for Hero Xtreme as it hasn’t got anything that’s “extreme” from the time Honda left Hero šŸ™
The engine performance is not that good as well due to the demise of Honda engines from all Hero bikes. Moreover, many issues have surfaced regarding the ride quality (Do a little survey around and u will find out the truth)

Now it gets crystal clear … everything depends on the mileage
      1. If you are too bothered about your wallet and want a good mileage – go for Trigger (I won’t just because Trigger lacks the macho look if you know what I mean)
      2. If you don’t care about mileage – go for FZ (which happened in my case and I am totally happy with my decision to go for FZ šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚ :))

  25. Hi, I am planning to buy a bike from these. Please suggest the best

    1. CBR 150
    2. Karizma R
    3. FZ-S
    4. Fazer
    5. Hunk
    6. Shine
    7. Unicorn

I am expecting 50 plus kmpl and a good performance

    1. Dude, seriously !!!
How in hell could you even think of including the names of bikes such as FZ, Fazer, CBR150 in your list and expect mileage of 50 kmpl šŸ™‚
That’s completely absurd and ridiculous “?#$%^&?”

Anyways, Shine would be the best for for you son and that’s the bottomline because I said so!

  26. Hi,

Please suggest a good bike to me. I have the following criteria in decreasing order of priority. (good if it meets top 3)
    1. Stylish look
    2. Good mileage
    2. Low/average maintenance cost
    3. Not too heavy
    4. For daily use mostly (in traffic)
    5. Had bad experiences with speeding earlier, so looking for normal pickup and speed. I am not going to cross 60.

I am looking for a bike in price range not exceeding 75K

    1. I would suggest you to go for Honda Trigger as it basically has all that you need and by the way, trust me when I say that “Honda delivers!”

  27. Hello, I plan to buy a bike but I’m confused about which bike is best for me.

    1 CB Trigger
    2 Apache RTR 160
    3 FZS

My requirements : Good mileage, stylish looks, low seat height etc. Please suggest

    1. If 40 kmpl is good enough for you, then FZS is the best in its class of 150cc bikes. Else CB trigger would be my choice given the circumstances.

      1. I want to buy CBR 150R. I know its advantages like power, style, comfort, etc. I do not know much about its disadvantages. Please help me. Also, if anyone is having this bike please tell the mileage you are seeing.
