TVS Sport Vs. Bajaj Discover 100T

Bajaj Discover 100T vs. TVS Sport

We have been seeing a lot of visitors over the past few days looking for information about the new Bajaj Discover 100T. As you should already know, this is the latest addition to the 100cc segment and has won praises from a lot of people for its pretty stylish looks and features that are better than most bikes in this segment.

TVS Sport on the other hand is not as new. It’s one of the three TVS bikes that are built for the mileage conscious customer. Unlike the Discover 100T, the Sport 100cc comes with pretty basic offerings and honestly does not have many things that truly differentiate it from the rest of the pack. Anyway, let’s now dive right into the specs comparison.

Bajaj Discover 100T vs. TVS Sport

Tech Specs Comparison

Specification TVS Sport 100cc Bajaj Discover 100T
Displacement 99.7cc 102cc
Max Power 7.4PS @7500 10.2PS @9000
Max Torque 7.5Nm @5000 9.2Nm @6500
Kerb weight 95kg 121kg
Wheelbase 1250mm 1305mm
Fuel tank 12 liters 10 liters
Reserve 2 liters 3.5 liters
Price (ex-Delhi) Rs. 37555 Rs. 50500

Except maybe for the fuel tank, the Discover 100T is truly better than TVS Sport in every possible way. However, look at the price – the 100T is nearly 34% more expensive than the Sport and that should play a huge role in your purchasing decision.

Anyway, before you go there, it is imperative that you find out how much your recurring costs with respect to the fuel is going to be. Find the mileage delivered by these two bikes compared below.

Fuel Economy Comparison

Let us start with the official claims. According to TVS Motors, the Sport can deliver a mileage of close to 82.9 kmpl under standard testing conditions. This is almost on par with the rest of the TVS 100cc bikes (the highest claim is on Star City with 83.9 kmpl). Bajaj though makes a pretty steeper claim. They say the 100T can offer close to 87 kmpl under similar road conditions. Do note that these mileages were tested under the best of road conditions (not to forget favourable wind conditions). It’s not realistic to expect a similar efficiency on your ride to your office on the pot-holes laden high traffic city roads.

The performance of these bikes could differ vastly on city roads though. MaxAbout – one of our trusted third party reviewers of bikes, reports a mileage of just around 50 kmpl on TVS Sport in city conditions. Their test on highways yielded 65 kmpl. On the other hand, the reviewer’s test of the 100T yielded 65 kmpl on city roads. To be honest though, MaxAbout does not explicitly state if the reported number on Discover 100T was what they derived on the test ride or what was provided to them by the manufacturers.

The low figure reported on TVS Sport by MaxAbout should not deter you though. Every other reviewer has reported a much better figure. BikeDekho and IndiaAuto have both reported a city fuel consumption of 70 kmpl while IndianDrives goes a bit higher at 75 kmpl. Most of the other reviews have painted a much more realistic figure between 55-75 kmpl. BikeAdvice reports around 55 kmpl while IndiaGarage notes a figure of around 68 kmpl. On the user reviews site, MouthShut, the reported number has hovered between 65-75 kmpl which is pretty good.

The Bajaj Discover 100T has not had as many reviews. MotorBeam, in their review, claim to be seeing around 70 kmpl on city roads while a reviewer on xBHP reports 65 kmpl.

Source TVS Sport (kmpl) Discover 100T (kmpl)
Official 82.9 87
MaxAbout 50 65
BikeDekho 70
IndiaAuto 70
IndianDrives 75
BikeAdvice 55-75
IndiaGarage 68
MouthShut 65-75
MotorBeam 70
xBHP 65

So there you have it. The fuel economy under city roads seem to be more or less the same on both these bikes. So personally, I would now take the mileage out of the equation while deciding on what bike to buy – would you mind spending 13,000 rupees more for better power, torque and more stylish looks? Or would you be happy going for more basic looks that perform as promised? That’s a question that only you can answer.

Do you have anything more to add for the rest of us looking for an answer? Do put it down in the comments below.

  1. TVS IS BETTER IN compare to Mileage, low maintance, price, but not bad look then 100t,and also ,give 75 km milge in city .but discover 100t give only 55km milge all claim are FAKE

  2. Bajaj discover 100t not giving me over 52 Kmpl city after 4th service. I am sure Bajaj is making me a fool. What is the reason I drive this 100t near to 35 to 45 kmph and I have 12+ more experience of driving. I think Platina 100 or Star sport are much better than this 100t.

  3. Bajaj Discover 100t is not giving me anything over 35 kmpl. I am un happy with this bike and its resale value is too low at around Rs. 40000

  4. I am going to purchase Star Sport in a couple of days!! I saw many reviews about the 100cc good mileage bike, so I ultimately decided to go with Star Sport. Good looking, best mileage and low maintenance. I will be happy to purchase “Star Sport”.

    Thank you guys..!! :):)

  5. Star Sport and City are best bikes forever, whereas 100T fails to deliver the best average in 100cc class. So if you are mileage conscious, go for Star series and if you want extraordinary performance, extra HP and torque, twin spark, 4 valves with sporty looks in 100cc class, go for 100T with extra money in your pocket.

  6. TVS Sport is better and is more stylish. The mileage is also 70+ whereas Discover is not good looking and the handling is also very bad and hard

  7. I have purchased Bajaj Discover 100t on 4th May 2013 and since then I’ve driven 3000 kms. This is for those who are saying that they have poor mileage or starting problem. I had poor mileage and starting problems since my first service and it was getting worse after the 2nd and 3rd service.I got determined to solve this issue. So I took the bike to the service center over and over again, but they couldn’t solve this issue. Then one day I got angry and shouted on those service center mechanics and told them that to solve my bike problem or I won’t move a inch from there. Then they assured me that they will call the head mechanic from another service center on the next day. And guess what, the head mechanic repaired my bike. Then I asked him what was the problem. He told me that those unskilled service center mechanics did some wrong carburetor adjustments which caused these problems. Now I have a true mileage of 70kmpl and no starting issue. Also there is less vibration on speed of 50-70, so those who are having the same issue please force service centre guys to get expert mechanics to tune the carburetor properly.

And another thing your bike is having auto-choke so don’t twist accelerator while starting the bike, just kick it or press self.

Those who are saying this is a bad bike they don’t know how to handle a bike with 10.2ps power, go drive a cycle. No 100cc 110cc 125cc bikes except stunner and ignitor can beat it

  8. Chayan…. Very true … Go drive Cycle if do not understand the POWER of 10.2pc…

If you want to compare STAR CITY & SPORT MODEL … compare it with Discover 1004G or 100M (recently launched.

Compare it with 100 4G or 100M and even the Bajaj bikes will come out with flying colours.

Remember Bajaj is giving you TWIN SPARK technology.
In case 1 spark fail in the middle of nowhere your bike moves on with another spark in Bajaj Bikes.

    Unlike in other bikes….

  9. I drive around 80-90kms daily. As of now I am using Scooty pep and got fed up with the mileage. Can anyone suggest me a good bike with great mileage? I happen to be a differently-abled person and hence so far I haven’t ever touched any gear bikes. I have been riding gearless vehicles. This time I have decided to go for a gear bike. Please suggest some bikes with not just assumed calculations but actual calculations of mileage.
